We are delighted to welcome teams from BBC1’s popular TV show, Bargain Hunt, to our Gallery Sale on Tuesday 8 November along with antiques expert presenter Charlie Ross.
Now in its sixteenth year with an amazing 45 series under its belt, this is one of the most popular antiques shows on television. For those unfamiliar with the format, it features two competing pairs of amateur collectors who have an hour at an antiques shop or fair in which to acquire the best bargains possible with £300. They then have to sell the items at auction for a profit.
After the contestants have completed their purchases and presented them to the antiques expert host presenter, home viewers are shown a ‘what the auctioneer thinks’ segment, in which the auctioneer appraises the buys and gives the auction estimate. At the auction, as each item is sold, the host compares the auction sale price to the price originally paid by the team, with the difference being either subtracted from or added to the team's total. It makes great television!
We love being part of shows like this. Auctions always have a touch of drama about them anyway so they make excellent viewing for television audiences. You never know quite what an item will make on the day, which makes it really exciting. The items are also entered without a reserve price so a sale will nearly always be made, however low or high.
They will be filming four programmes at our Gallery Sale so there will be eight teams presenting their finds. The sale of the lots will be filmed live so why not come along and see how it’s done? The action starts at 10am.
